Looking to become a forensic nurse? Well, in order to get into this field, you will have to complete the required training and then go after a forensic nursing certification. This is a new field that is quite exciting. It is involved in scientific investigation, working with law enforcement. If this sounds like a career that interests you, you will should look into getting a forensic nurse certificate.

Description

A forensic nurse is the same as a registered nurse. They have the same duties, such as helping with victims of crimes, abuse, accidents, neglect, injury and helping law enforcement agencies with collecting evidence. The nurses are also known to help investigate deaths.



National Association

If you would like to find out the criteria, you will have to check with the ABNF, or the American Board of Forensic Nursing, which is the nationally recognized association for forensic nursing certification. You will also find application forms as well.

Qualifications

In order to get into a CFN program, you will have to complete the required forms and clinical validation. You will have to be a certified registered nurse with at least three years of experience under your belt.

Duration

It can take about a year to complete the training for a forensic nurse certificate. You can find programs available at a variety of vocational schools, colleges and universities.

Continuing Education

In order to keep your certification active, you will need to complete 15 credit hours of continuing education in the field of forensics.
