Working as an administrative medical assistant, you will be a part of a very important healthcare team. Some of the professionals you'll be working with includes physicians and nurses, helping patients receive appropriate treatment for their medical needs.

You are also responsible for a variety of clinical tasks. Each facility isn't the same, so depending on where you gain employment determines what you'll be doing on the job. It is required that you have at least a high school diploma and a certificate in medical assisting or an associate's degree . You will also receive hands-on training while at work. In this field, you could earn between $23,700 and $39,050.

Managing Records



As an administrative medical assistant, you will have to deal with a lot of paperwork. For instance, you would have file, update and create medical files of patients. You will also have to fill out and code insurance claims of patients. Other tasks you will be responsible for includes bookkeeping, keeping inventory of medical supplies, handling correspondence and maintaining billing records.

Communicating

While working in administrative medical assisting, you will have a lot of communicating to do each day. Besides just communicating with your colleagues and doctors, you will have to communicate with patients. In most cases, you would have to greet patients as they come into the office. You'll also have to take phone calls, set up patient appointments and arrange for patients to conduct lab testing. In some cases, you may have to educate patients about their medical histories. In some instances, you may have to write emails and letters.

Preparing

If you end up working in a physician's office in the administrative medical assisting field, you will have to do clinical and administative duties, like preparing exam rooms, taking vital signs and collecting specimens for testing. Sterilizing medical instruments and helping with X-rays and EKGs is also a part of your job.
