There is a slow rise of male nurses in the United States, rising from 5 percent in the '80s to 9 percent by 2007. The nursing field is mostly dominated by women, but a lot of males are beginning to enter into the field because of the multitude of career options that are available.

Instructions

Step One: The first thing you will need to do is like any other person who wants to become a nurse - find a program to study in. There are two different types of nursing programs you can get into - registered nursing and licensed practical nurse, also known as a licensed vocational nurse. Both fields require you to have a high school diploma or GED. To become a registered nurse, you will need to take a certificate program, which can last between six to 12 weeks, to become certified nursing assistant, and then work your way into the field as a registered nurse. As an RN, you will be able to earn more money as you gain more experience.

Step Two: After you have gotten a CNA certificate, you will be able to become a licensed practical nurse. You will have to take a state exam in order to get a license in this field. You will have to study in class and complete practice work within a clinical setting. As an LPN, you will not be a full fledged male nurse, but you will be able to work under the doctor who is supervising you, while conducting injections, taking vital signs and providing other forms of care to the patients.

Step Three: Your next step for becoming an RN is to get a degree, either a bachelor or associate degree in nursing. The associate's degree takes two years to complete and the bachelor's degree takes four years to complete.
