The nursing field is always in great demand for certified nursing assistants and licensed practical nurses. Choosing which you would like to be could be a bit difficult. If you're looking to enter into either one of these fields, you will need to look at the job duties of each one and see if they fit your idea of a career. You will also need to ensure that your financial situation and time will work out fine while training to become a nurse.

Job Duties of a Licensed Practice Nurse

As an LPN, you will be helping to care for patients by giving them bedside care - similar to that of a nursing assistant. As a licensed practical nurse, you will be able to pass medications and administer boosters, unlike a nursing assistant can. Using health care plans and keeping track of patient records is also a part of their duties. In this field, you may also supervise nurse aides.

Training to Become a Licensed Practical Nurse

As your responsibilities increase, so will your need for training and education. To become an LPN, you will have to be in an accredited school for about two years. After graduation, you will have to take the Board of Examiners of Licensed Practical Nurses exam.

Benefits of Being an LPN

A good thing about entering into this field is the salaries and range of responsibilities. Plus, finding work shouldn't be a problem since this field is in high demand.

Job Duties of a Nursing Assistant

As a certified nursing assistant, you will be responsible for providing bedside care. You aren't allowed to give shots or medicines. Most cases, you'll be working under the supervision of an LPN.

Training to Become a Nurse Aide

It takes about 90 hours of schooling to become a certified nursing assistant. Afterward you will have to take an exam to obtain a certificate. Licenses are not required.
