No one remains young forever. But the task of caring for the aged can be a great task. Because of this, nursing homes(or assisted living centers) are being established to tackle these situations and hiring nursing assistants to help provide care for the residence of these assisted living centers.

Job Description

Nursing Assistants often work in nursing homes which serve as home for the aged; often they suffer from serious medical conditions. Nursing homes are designed to provide food, shelter, and medical care for their residents; they also will provide social, religious, civic, creative, and intellectual activities.

In addition to providing medical and social care, nursing assistants help the residents with basic daily activities such as: eating, dressing, bathing, grooming, going to the bathroom, and moving from place to place

Basic Requirements

Nursing assistants are expected to have gone through basic education first. They also must have been working in a hospital as registered or licensed nurses. The basic nursing training and subsequent examinations are also necessary. However, in the nursing home, nursing assistant that do not have professional qualifications are also allowed to work. But their work is limited.

Good communication skills and attitudes such as patience, perseverance and love are highly important.

Prior training, as has been discussed above, is very useful. This is the case especially with bigger nursing homes owned by government or large non-governmental agencies.

Employment Outlook

The nursing assistant job has good prospect globally. An individual nurse could be recruited to work in any nursing home in the world provided the nurse has basic qualification.

The salary structure for nursing assistants varies according to the purse of the organization. Regardless, the pay is still good and you can certainly make a living out of being a nursing assistant.


Nursing assistant jobs are more of humanitarian career. It is one way of giving back to the society and at the same time having a fulfilling career. It pays to serve others especially when it comes to taking care of the aged and the disabled.
