With so many people dreaming of entering the medical sector, the demand for nurses has risen by leaps and bounds. There are umpteen job options for a registered nurse in hospitals, schools, clinics, colleges, insurance agencies and so on. With the ever increasing population, there is enormous scope for growth in the nursing sector. A well qualified nurse is sought after by almost all the high end hospitals.

Nursing is the ideal career option for people who believe in helping people and can be empathetic towards their needs. If being of assistance to someone in pain gives you satisfaction, then you surely are a good nurse in the making. However, if you are one of the people who cannot stand the sight of blood, then probably you should look for something else to do. Also, as a nurse, you will have to do a lot of cleaning up for people on an everyday basis. It is because of the above reasons that it is advisable to talk to a nurse and get a clear picture about the pros and cons of the profession before you decide to take it up.

There are various courses available that will form your stepping stone to being a nurse. There are several two year courses available that should give you the qualification, enough to get you a job at small hospitals or a medical centre. However, if you intend to join a high end hospital and aim at scaling greater heights in the nursing business, then you will have to get enrolled for the Bachelor's program in nursing at any accredited university or college.

Any course that you end up joining in order to become a nurse will include a detailed study of the human anatomy and the like. You will be expected to excel at biology, chemistry, microbiology, psychology in addition to any other subject you wish to specialize in. Along with the technical training and education, you will also be taught sociology which will help you be sensitive to the patients needs.

After your formal education, the next obvious step will be to apply to the hospital or any other organization you wish to be a part of. While making an application, make sure you convey clearly as to what inspired you to take up nursing. There are people who begin working as part time interns at hospitals even while they are half way through their nursing course. This exposure to the working of the hospital-environment gives them a more clear and practical understanding of the profession they want to pursue.

The job profile in the nursing sector is not restricted to helping the patient with their medicines and cleaning up. A good nurse aims at building a cordial relationship with the patient and assures them of their well being which goes a long way in making the patient feel better and respond more effectively to the medical treatment that is being given to them. All in all, the job of a nurse requires a lot of skills, qualification and humanitarian values.
