JOB SUMMARY:

The
nurse assistant contributes to the nursing process by performing patient care
and non-patient care activities as delegated by a licensed nurse.  Assists in implementation of the Nursing Care
Plan and performs a variety of restorative nursing services.  Protects and adheres to the rights of all
patients cared for.

Education:    High school
diploma or equivalent preferred.

 

Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities

The ability to read and
communicate in EnglishThe ability to learn and
comprehend basic medical terminologyThe ability to read and
complete formsThe ability to evaluate
patient’s status, prioritize, and organize own workloadThe ability to deal
tactfully with all internal and external customersThe ability to be flexible
and work harmoniously with co-workers, patients, and familiesThe ability to complete
appropriate documentation/chartingThe ability to use the

Licenses, Registrations,
and Certificates:  Certification is highly
preferred.  If not a Certified Nursing
Assistant, must be registered as a Nurse Assistant through the North Dakota
Department Health within four months from the date of initial employment.  Certification is required if designated by
law.  Basic Life Support must be obtained
within 6 months from the date of initial employment.

 

Working
Conditions:  Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated and
ventilated nursing unit.  May be exposed
to infectious or contagious diseases and body fluid or blood borne
diseases.  May be exposed to emergency
situations as well as varying and unpredictable patient situations.  Will be exposed to blood and body fluids on a
regular basis.  Exposed to
housekeeping/cleaning supplies and chemicals.

 

Physical
Requirements:  Work is of heavy demand.  Standing and walking most of the time while
on duty.  Ability to perform lifting and
transferring techniques of patients is required.  No limitations for walking, bending,
stooping, kneeling or reaching.  Must
have the ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less.  Must have following physical senses: vision,
hearing, smelling, feeling.
