The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner obtains comprehensive medical histories and performs physical examinations and assessments; orders appropriate diagnostic tests; analyzes data results of patient examinations and diagnostic tests to correctly diagnose and manage patients; collaborates with physicians, as necessary, to verify diagnosis, identify high-risk situations or alerts to changes in patient’s status and takes appropriate action; provides medical management and/or other interventions for acute and chronic health problems; administers medication; performs procedures according to established methods within the scope of practice; provides appropriate follow-up care and/or referral to other health care resources; provides patient/patient’s family with appropriate education; provides health maintenance and disease management counseling to patients; serves as a liaison, resource, and consultant for physicians, health care team members, patients and families; participates in plans for health promotion, prevention and maintenance; completes all charting and documentation; assures appropriate fees/billing codes are used for professional services; demonstrates ability to adjust own schedule; notifies the Administrator of any potential problems; advises the Manager of significant and unexpected variances; demonstrates an understanding of the operating budget and assists the Manager in keeping within the fiscal constraints of the budget; assists staff in performing tests, treatments and therapies and responds to and coordinates emergency situations, and assists in providing professional growth and educational opportunities to staff and coordinates educational efforts.
Patients cared for include those in the following age groups:
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED
Masters in Nursing.
Certification by a national nursing certifying (NCC) body in neonatology.
Neonatal Recusitation Program certification.
Licensed by the North Dakota State Board of Nursing and licensed by the Minnesota Board of Nursing or will apply for their Minnesota license prior to their first day of employment.
(Telephone calls from patients calling from Minnesota cannot be taken from a Nurse Practitioner until they obtain their Minnesota license.).
Nurse Practitioners must have or be able to obtain DEA registration if required by their supervising Physician within six (6) months from their first day of employment
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written format.
Previous experience as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.
