Registered Nursing Jobs description
Registered nurses comprise the largest group of healthcare workers. Most registered nurses work directly with patients and their families and act as the primary point of contact between the patient and the world of health care.Registered nurses work to promote good health and prevent illness. They educate patients and the public about various medical conditions; treat patients and help in their rehabilitation; and provide advice and emotional support to patients\' families. And while doing so, they use considerable judgment.
Typical duties of a registered nurse include: frequent patient evaluations, including monitoring and tracking vital signs, performing procedures such as IV placement, phlebotomy, and administering medications. Registered nurses also develop the everyday nursing care plans both in hospital, and for care after discharge by families and visiting nurses. Since a registered nurse is much more in regular contact with patients than are physicians, the registered nurse is usually the first to notice problems or raise concerns about patient progress.
Registered nurses must have good health and emotional stability. They must be careful workers who take their responsibilities seriously. They must follow rigid guidelines to ensure the health and safety of themselves and their patients.
Some registered nurses choose to become advanced-practice nurses and get special training beyond their registered nurse education. They therefore go on to become: nurse-practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, Certified Nurse-Midwives, or Certified Registered Nurse Anaesthetists.
